Modalities offered:
Swedish Massage: Designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to relax the soft tissues and facilitate the natural flow of fluids. Benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Deep-Tissue Massage: Deep-tissue technique are administered to gain access to the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. These techniques require advanced training and a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. The superficial muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage; otherwise, tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation, breaking up of scar tissue, and can reduce inflammation-related pain caused by inflammation.
Sports Massage: Stretching is incorporated in many massage sessions, but is especially useful in sports massage. Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. There are three contexts in which sports massage can be useful to an athlete: pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment.
When an athlete sustains an injury, skillful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing. Massage is only appropriate in facilitating the healing of injuries after severe swelling has gone down (lymphatic drainage can be performed in this instance), or physical therapy has taken place etc.
Cupping: This technique uses cups and suction to create vacuum pressure next to the skin to stimulate the flow of body fluid. This technique is great for breaking up scar tissue and getting to those deeper layers of tissue.
Lymphatic Drainage:
The lymphatic system helps remove waste from the body and sometimes that lymph fluid can become congested in certain areas. Lymphatic massage aims to improve the flow of lymph fluid, which can reduce edema/swelling. Lymphatic drainage aids the body in moving lymph fluid away from congested areas to be expelled by the body. This technique is great for acute injuries where inflammation is present. Lymphatic drainage for post operation can be performed. Please contact me personally to book a post-op session.
Pre-Natal (second and third trimester only): *Please see the contraindications section before booking*
Pre-natal specific massage techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus. Skilled, appropriate touch may facilitate labor, shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety.
In the postpartum period, specialized techniques re-balance structure, physiology, and emotions of the new mother may help her to bond with and care for her infant.
Aromatherapy: * Please make the practitioner aware of any allergies before you arrive for your appointment* The use of essential oils (extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods, and roots) in body and skin care treatments is known as aromatherapy. Specific essential oils are blended by the aromatherapist and added to a carrier oil, such as massage oil, lotion, cream or gel to be used during the massage. Each oil has its own unique characteristics and benefits.
Hot stone: Smooth flat stones are heated and placed on different areas of the body as well as held by the therapist and moved over the superficial tissue as an extension of the hand. The heated stones allow for access to deeper tissue without adding pressure. This modality can reduce stress and promote a sense of calm.
Kinesiology Tape: this taping method lifts the superficial tissue to create space for underlying tissue, allowing the body to move fluid away from the applied area, alleviating swelling and pain. Kinesiology tape is great for acute injuries or any area of inflammation.
